What is Micellar Water? It takes its name from “micelles” which are tiny oil molecules that have been suspended in water. They work by attracting dirt and make-up and dissolving them. Soaking a cotton pad with micellar water and placing over the eyes, holding gently for a few seconds and then wiping away to remove eye make-up. Micellar water can also be used to remove foundation and cleanse the skin. One of the benefits is that there is no need to rinse it off.
The first product I tried was Christian Dior’s Instant Cleansing Water with Pure Lily Extract. (200ml £26.oo). I found this to be excellent in removing make-up and left my skin feeling clean and soothed. In fact, I was so impressed by how this helped my skin that it has totally converted me to using micellar water to remove my make-up. I use it in the mornings to cleanse my skin and in the evening to remove eye make-up.
Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Water (200ml £4.49). This product is also enriched with minerals and multi-vitamins and is good for sensitive skin. It leaves the skin feeling hydrated but was not quite as good at removing eye make-up.
Garnier Micellar Water (400ml £4.99) Garnier have several Micellar waters for different skin types. I have tried the ones for Combination and Sensitive Skins and the For Even Sensitive Skin. Both are very effective in removing eye make-up and leaving the skin feeling hydrated and calm.
The last product I tried was Boot’s Botanics Hydration Burst 3-in-1 Micellar Cleanser (250ml £4.99). This contains active plant extract Clary Sage which is rich in flavonoids that hydrate the skin. This was excellent at removing eye make-up.
I would have to say that all of the products I tested really do a great job at removing make-up and cleansing the face. Since using Micellar water I have had almost no breakouts and my skins texture has also improved.
