My top five mascaras …

There are literally, hundreds of mascaras on the market and the choice is almost overwhelming.  Over the years I have tried so many different ones ranging from really affordable to the ridiculously expensive but, I now know which ones I really like and that do the job.

CLINIQUE LASH POWER LONG-WEARING FORMULA

img_1034

This mascara I have been wearing for years, but I use it on my lower lashes only.  It doesn’t smudge or rub off and is really long lasting.  It has a thin applicator brush so is perfect for the lower lashes.  Brilliant.  £19.

MUA EYE DEFINE MASCARA

img_1032

This is my most recent find.  I was exploring the more affordable drugstore brands and gave this a try.  Really great result, as it lengthens beautifully and separates lashes creating a great look, and only £3!!

LANCOME HYPNOSE MASCARA

img_1030

This is probably the mascara I have used time and time again over the years.  Its great at separating the lashes and is very volumising.  Added bonus, it doesn’t smudge.  Gives a really black lash.  £23.50.

TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX WATERPROOF MASCARA

img_1024

A great mascara that lengthens and thickens lashes.  I am not too keen on the brush, but the results speak for themselves.  Hate the name, love the mascara.  £19.

L’OREAL VOLUME MILLION LASHES FATALE

img_1026

This mascara is quite a recent discovery for me, and it is the gives the best result of all of my favourites.  It seems to double the length of my lashes and definitely makes them look thicker.  I love the wand and I can see this is going to be the mascara I usually go for.  £9.99.

I think mascara is the one thing that can transform your face, and it is always good to find a new one.  I’m always open to trying a new one, so if you have a favourite let me know in the comments.

Have a great week xxx

September favourites….

fullsizerender-43

I have been using quite a few new products  this month and I am really pleased with all of them.

Recently, I decided to stop dyeing my hair and let the greys show.  At the moment I can’t decide if this is a good idea or not.  I have been colouring my hair for years and I think it is beginning to look quite dry and not at all shiny.  Hopefully, without the colour on it, it will be much more healthy.  On the other hand, am I ready for grey hair?  Not sure, but I haven’t wavered yet.

L’OREAL PROFESSIONAL COLOR CORRECTOR

IMG_1015.jpg

This is to take any brassiness out of the hair, and you wash and towel dry your hair and apply the corrector (a lovely deep purple shade) and leave for five to ten minutes. This was recommended by my hairdresser and it does seem to work.  I have been using it for a couple of weeks and my hair is definitely looking like it has less red in it.

GARNIER SKINACTIVE MICELLAR OIL-INFUSED CLEANSING WATER

fullsizerender-41

I have been a great fan of Garnier Micellar waters in general, and when I saw this latest one I thought I would give it a go.  It is for dry and sensitive skin and great a removing even waterproof make-up. I find this is great at leaving the skin feeling very soft and cleansed and not at all greasy.  Thumbs up from me.

SIMPLE KIND TO SKIN DUAL EFFECT EYE MAKE-UP REMOVER

fullsizerender-44

Although the Garnier Micellar water is good at taking of waterproof make-up, I do like to use a specific remover as I do use a lot of mascara.  This one from simple is brilliant at taking eye make-up off without having to rub the eyes. Don’t forget to shake the bottle before using.

BENEFIT 3D BROWTONES

fullsizerender-45

Who doesn’t like a polished brow.  This product I find easy to use and the colour is just right for me.  I have been using this every day since I bought it.

MUA SWEET SHEEN LIP BALM IN CHERRY BOMB

fullsizerender-40

I recently decided to take a closer look at the cheaper end of drugstore make-up and came across this tinted lip balm by MUA.  I love it – it isn’t sticky or tacky, but lovely and smooth. The colour is great and I love everything about it, except that the lid won’t stay on!  The bonus is that it only cost £2!

I can’t believe how quickly the months are flying by this year, and I hope you enjoyed this post.

Have a great week everyone xxxxx

My favourite concealers…

img_0994

One of the most important stages in any makeup routine is the using a concealer.  In my younger days I didn’t use one at all, but now I would feel a little bit lost without it.  I have quite a few concealers in my collection, mainly because there are so many out there and some are good, some are bad and some are great.  These are the ones I use the most.

MAYBELLINE INSTANT ANTI-AGE -THE ERASE EYE CONCEALER

fullsizerender-36

This is my most recent purchase and I have to say, it is my favourite at the moment.  I love the applicator on this concealer and I have it in two shades – light and nude.  It is great under the eye and for the T-zone.  It is not drying at all and has good coverage.

NO 7 INSTANT RADIANCE CONCEALER

fullsizerender-38

I always think that this brand gets a bit overlooked by beauty bloggers, but I am a big fan.  This concealer is also illuminating and sits really well on the skin.  I do tend to use this mainly in the under eye area.  Great packaging and a secure lid, so ideal to pop in your handbag.

VICHY DERMABLEND FLUID CORRECTIVE FOUNDATION

fullsizerender-35

This has medium to high coverage and is great for concealing spots and dark spots.  It comes in a 30ml size and so will last forever, as you only need the smallest amount.  I pop a bit on the back of my hand and apply with a small concealer brush.

CLARINS INSTANT CONCEALER

fullsizerender-34

A 15ml size concealer, and I also apply this product with a concealer brush.  It has good coverage and I mainly use this in the summer when my skin isn’t quite as dry as in the winter months.   This concealer would be great if you have oily skin.

SOAP & GLORY KICK ASS CONCEALER

I think this a brilliant concealer from Soap & Glory.  Brilliantly packaged with a mirror in the lid and two shades of concealer (one has a more brightening effect), it also has a beautiful powder to set the concealer.

If you have a favourite concealer that I haven’t mentioned, then leave a comment below and I will feel compelled to try it out!

Have a great week xxxx

September’s Glossybox…

A bright red Glossybox this month, and it is filled with great things.

If you read my review on last month’s box, you will recall that I was sent an eyeshadow palette by MUA in the colours I had not chosen.  Glossybox were aware of this without me having to inform them, and they kindly send the correct palettes in this month’s box.

RODIAL SMOKEY EYE PENCIL

image

Actually, I already have this eye liner, but am delighted to receive another as this is a great liner.  It is very black and looks great if you want a really defined line or if you want to blend it out to create a smokey look.

THE ORGANIC PHARMACY ANTIOXIDANT LIP BALM

img_0981

This is a brand and a product I have not used before, and I am definitely interested in trying more from them.  This is a lovely balm, very moisturising and feels comfortable on the lips.  It contains Rose Hip and Shea Butter and has a delicate fragrance. Great size and with a screw top it is perfect for popping into your handbag.

REVLON COLORSTAY GEL ENVY DIAMOND TOP COAT

img_0983

A great product from Revlon is this top coat with a gel like shiny finish.  Revlon claim it to be tough and flexible and increases the length of wear of your normal nail polish.  I am looking forward to trying this out.

TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA

img_0986

Another product I haven’t tried before.  I have heard great reviews about this mascara and I am excited to try it.  It is meant to thicken and lengthen the lashes with an inky black finish.  I have a struggle with mascaras and although I buy and own a heck of a lot, I only use about three regularly, so I am looking forward to trying it.

VITAMASQUES HYDRO FACE MASK

img_0987

For anyone who follows me on Twitter or Instagram, you will know I am partial to the odd facemark.  I use one or two a week, so it is always great to be able to try a new brand.  This mask claims to give 120 hours of hydration which is quite a claim.  The mask contains “AMF” (Artificial Moisturising Factor) which is meant to enhance the skins ability to retain moisture, and also Rose of Jericho which has the same abilities.

There was also a 5ml sample of The Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask which is part of a new range of facemarks from the Body Shop.

img_0988

So I am very pleased with this month’s box and I am very happy with this subscription.  There are so many subscription boxes out there, it is difficult to know which are the best value for money and also for products.

I would be interested to know what beauty boxes you would recommend.  Let me know.

Until next week, bye for now…xxx

My top five eyeshadow palettes…

img_0972

I have rather a lot of eyeshadow palettes.  I think I need to have a bit of a cull.  The sad thing is, that they all seem to be the same colours – shades of brown.  How original of me.  Occasionally, you see a glimpse of a purple or dark green, and the random dark plum, but generally they are all shades of brown.  Here are the five palettes I regularly reach for on a day to day basis.

TOO FACED CHOCOLATE BAR

Now I know that everybody has this palette, but this was quite a recent purchase for me.  To be honest, I’m not bothered if it smells like chocolate, in fact, I would rather it didn’t because it only reminds me that I want to eat chocolate all day long!  The colours are great and I have used them all – my particular favourites being Milk Chocolate and Haute Chocolate.  They blend well and this is usually the palette I take if I am going away.

CLARINS THE ESSENTIALS PALETTE

I bought this palette last Christmas and it contains 10 shades of mainly brown, one dark purple and a pale pink base shade.  There is also a quite chunky gold that I used over the Christmas period.

img_0956img_0958

MAYBELLINE THE NUDES

A great drugstore palette, and as you can tell from the picture, it has been used extensively.  A great mix of matt and shimmer shades and a black which is great for a smoky eye.

L’OREAL LA PALETTE NUDE ROSE

A great little palette, with soft pinky nude shades and a darker purple shade.  This is perfect for travelling as it is compact and has a good sized mirror.  Great autumnal shades.

img_0960img_0962

TARTE TARTELETTE IN BLOOM

Finally, this Tarte palette is divine.  I really love it. Beautiful shades of mainly nude warm browns and some darker colours for the smokey look.  A great palette with a huge mirror, so again, this is a great palette to take on your travels.

IMG_0843IMG_0842

How many of these palettes do you have?  I don’t feel too guilty about having so many, because they are good value for money!  At least that is what I keep telling myself.

Have a great week and come visit the blog next Sunday. xxx

Review of Benefit’s They’re Real Big Sexy Eye and Lip kits….

Benefit have brought out two new products for Autumn and so I hot footed to my local Boots to check them out.  I had heard about the new lip kit and was definitely intrigued to try this out.  A set of four colours  with the liner built in – why had nobody thought of this before?  The eye shadow kit has three duo shadows and a tiny beauty blender to apply two shadows simultaneously.

IMG_0927

THEY’RE REAL BIG SEXY LIP KIT

Firstly, the packaging is really great on these lipsticks and they are nice and slim so can slip easily into those little pockets they put in handbags that are meant to be for your phone, but in reality are too small.

The choice of shades is great, although I am not a fan of an orange lippy because it does not suit my colouring, and I love the fact that the lip liner is built in to the product.  Hence, the shape of the lipstick is a teardrop rather than the usual shape of a lipstick.

IMG_0937

Benefit claim that lips will look visibly fuller and sexier, and that it will last for 8 hours.  Quite a claim.  I have tried all four lipsticks and it does have some longevity, but not 8 hours.  Mine lasted about 3 hours, which I was quite happy with as I don’t really mind having to reapply.  Pink ThrillsRevved Up Red and Lusty Rose are three great shades and the texture and feel was really lovely.  The Flame Game shade I found to be a slightly different consistency, it moved around on the lips and I was not so keen on this shade.  The cost of the kit was £24 and I think that was a great price for four lipsticks.

IMG_0924

THEY’RE REAL BIG SEXY EYE KIT

These three eyeshadow duos come with a little beauty blender that you are meant to swipe through the two shades and then apply to the eyelid.  In reality, I found the blender to be a little too awkward to hold. It did apply the product very smoothly and if the handle was just a little longer it would have been perfect.  The colours are absolutely gorgeous and they blend super easy.    They are quite shimmery and there is a warm brown, a pinky brown and a cooler brown, and they are all colours I love.  Benefit claims that they stay creaseless on the eye for 12 hours and they are right.  These are FAB.  I most certainly did not need another eyeshadow palette but I am glad I got this one – I think it is going to be a favourite.  Just  make that handle a little longer and its perfection.

IMG_0929IMG_0947

So that’s it for this week folks.  I am really looking forward to the start of Autumn, not least because of all the new launches to come.  I hope you all have a great week and see you soon……xxx

My Morning Routine for August…

IMG_0909

It’s probably the same for you too, but my skin care routine does tend to change quite often and I don’t think that is a bad thing.  For the past month I have been using the same products quite consistently.  One reason being, that I have quite a lot of different products and I want to use some up so that I can move on to something new.

First thing I do when I wake up is to have a glass of water.  I feel I definitely need this as I am always thirsty and I feel it sets me up for the day ahead.

A single cleanse with THE BODY SHOP CAMOMILE SILKY CLEANSING OIL gets the ball rolling, and I am loving this cleanser.  It leaves the skin silky smooth and has a great smell.  I just massage into my face and remove with a warm, damp flannel.

IMG_0911

Then I follow with the PIXI GLOW TONIC.  This is applied on a cotton pad and swept over the face. This is a product I can’t seem to stop using.  Having been informed of its existence by the wonderful Caroline Hirons, I haven’t been able change.  It is great if you have an outbreak as it seems to stop the spots in their tracks.  It is a gentle exfoliant that leave the skin healthy and glowing.  Just a reminder to anyone who feels like trying this, you most definitely need to use an SPF of 30 or more.

IMG_0913

I then apply a few drops of FOREVER ALPHA-E FACTOR SKIN REPLENISHER.  This is another layer of moisture and nutrients – who doesn’t need that.

IMG_0917

KIEHLS HYDRO-PLUMPING RE-TEXTURING SERUM CONCENTRATE a bit of a mouthful, but a beautiful serum to add even more moisture to the skin.  A very economical serum, as you only need one pump for every application.

IMG_0915As I am of the “mature” variety,  I find I can get a bit of dry skin around my eyes if I don’t use an eye cream.  Eye cream of the month is CLINIQUE’S PEP-START EYE CREAM, and this is easily absorbed and leaves the skin around the eyes plumped and hydrated.

IMG_0921

Finally, the final layer of moisture is applied in the form of KIEHLS SUPER MULTI-CORRECTIVE CREAM with SPF 30.   This smells fantastic and is a very rich, smoothing moisturiser that is perfect for a mature skin.

IMG_0919

So that’s the routine at the moment, but stayed tuned, because this can, and will change as I discover more products and try them out.

I hope you enjoyed this blog.  I would love to know if you have any recommendations for new products I could try out.

Enjoy your week and see you soon….xxxx
