Aromatika Organic and Natural Skin Care….

img_1191I live in a small town in Cornwall, and recently I discovered a small shop that sells natural and organic skin care whose products are made by hand.  Always interested to find any new skincare ranges, I ventured in.

This is a delightful little shop in one of the town’s prettiest lanes.  I was greeted by a very friendly lady who explained how the company was founded and what products I might like to try.

Aromatika was originally founded in 2006 by owner Lisa Hosking, a qualified aromatherapist.  All of their products are suitable for Vegetarians and most being Vegan as well.

All of the products are handmade in small batches in Devon, where Aromatika started and has shops in Exeter and Totnes, with shops in Glastonbury and Frome and of course, Truro.

All of their products are free of parabens and sodium laurel sulphate and not tested on animals.

Having been given all the information about the company, I decided that I needed to try some of the goods.

I love to use a facial oil and so the Rose Facial Oil was recommended as it is great for mature skin and helps with redness, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage and broken capillaries – all of which I have.  This smells divine and contains organic rosehip seed oil, macadamia oil which are both full of anti oxidants.  So full of all kinds of goodness.

I thought I would also buy the Rose Facial Moisturiser to compliment the facial oil.  This is also full of Vitamin E and great for mature, dehydrated, normal or slightly sensitive skin.

I normally use a facial oil in the evening after cleansing as I find that most are too oily under foundation, but the amazing thing with these products is that you can use the oil in the morning as well as the evening, because when you apply the moisturiser over the oil, it stops being oily and just sinks into the skin.  Brilliant!

So far I am very pleased with these products and will definitely be trying out some more from their face range, and also their body care range.  They also have a whole range of bath, hair, hand and feet products.

I hope everyone has had a great November and is looking forward to the festive season that is coming up.

Cleansing Balms …..

img_1179I was very late to the cleansing balm party, but having now joined in, I struggle to use any other medium to cleanse my ageing visage.  I always take my eye make-up off with a separate remover, although many balms will remove mascara equally as well, I just prefer it.

This has to be the queen of all cleansing balms.  It is so luxurious, smells fantastic and it is a real pleasure to massage this balm into the skin.  It is fairly expensive at £38 for 100g, but as you only need a small amount for each use, I think it is definitely worth it. My skin loves it and it keeps it calm and moisturised.  I especially like to use this when the seasons are changing and the skin can go a little haywire while it adjusts.

Having been a fan of the Pixi Glow Tonic, I thought I would try the cleansing balm.  At first I have to say, I was not a fan.  The main reason being that it does not wash off my hands after application.  Having said that, I did persevere and I now really like this balm.  It leaves the skin feeling fantastic and I now wipe my hands on a cloth instead of trying to rinse off.

This balm is a new addition to my collection and I am still trying it out, but so far I like it.  Once you massage the balm onto the face it turns to an oil and then you add a few drops of warm water and it turns to a milk that can be rinsed off.  Full of good things like shea butter argan oil, Vitamin E and sweet almond oil, it is very lightly fragranced.  One thing to note with this balm, and that is not too get it in your eyes, so don’t try to remove eye make-up.

This balm smells very similar to the Emma Hardie balm.  A very spa-like fragrance. It contains 95% natural ingredients and  is full of essential oils. It is a good dupe for the Emma Hardie, and less than a third of the price.  I always remove a balm with a clean, damp cloth as this will ensure all the product is removed.  Simply rinsing does not remove all of the product.

Another great product that also removes eye make-up.  It doesn’t have any discernible fragrance and is lightweight and silky on the skin.  This is probably my second favourite, after the Emma Hardie balm.

Actually, for years I cleansed my face with Dove soap and was quite happy to do so.  When I trained as a Beauty Therapist I became a bit obsessed with skin and how best to treat it.  I feel that cleansing balms really do make a difference to  the texture of the skin and also seem to prevent  any problems with breakouts.  This has been my experience of balms.  Of course, everyone’s skin is different, but I would say if you are experiencing problems with your own skin, then why not try a cleansing balm?

Enjoy your week guys.

November Glossybox….

img_1152November’s Glossybox has quite a diverse assortment of products.

First to catch my eye is the Wilkinson Sword Quattro Raspberry Rain disposable razors.  Definitely a useful product to receive, and I have not tried this latest razor.  My skin can be quite sensitive, particularly under the arms, so I will be interest to see how I react to the four blades.  They have a raspberry scented handle which, to be honest I don’t feel the need for.

If you follow me on instagram or twitter, you will know I am a big fan of a face mask.  The Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mast from 111Skin looks exciting.   This mask is for brightening, conditions and stimulates collagen production.  I am really looking forward to trying this.

Something I have seen mentioned a lot by YouTubers is the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray.  I am not the best sleeper in town, so I am delighted to try this out – lets see if it works.

The Jumbo Eye Pencil in Bubble 07 from De Gruyere Beauté, is a great shade for the Christmas season.  It is highly pigmented and has a shimmer to it that is very festive.  I am wearing it today, even though I am sitting, writing in my pyjamas!

The last item is a blending brush from Ruby Professional.  It is super soft and although I usually prefer a brush that is a bit firmer, I will give it a go.

As a little treat from Glossybox this month, they kindly added a Raffaella chocolate which was delicious.  Thank you GB!

I hope you have all had a great week .

love and kisses  xxxxx

Lancome 2016 Advent Calendar…

There are so many beauty calendars this season, and such a huge variety to choose from.

Having had a look on-line and at as many options as I could handle, I decided to buy only one this year (this, of course may change over the coming weeks!). As my partner has already bought the L’Occitane calendar for my, I thought that I would treat myself to the Lancôme 2016 Your Beauty Fairytale Come True calendar. I purchased mine from Boots and it cost £85.

It has 24 products and I have listed them below .

All in all, I feel that this is a great calendar as it contains products from Lancome, YSL, Viktor and Rolf and Ralph Lauren.  Some are really just sample sizes that are given out for free, but most products are fairly decent sizes and I feel it is a great way to sample new things.

It is mind-boggling the amount of calendars that are available this year, so if you can recommend a good one, please comment below.

Have a great week, and there are only 49 shopping days till Christmas Eve!!

Autumn Pamper evening ….

fullsizerender-73Now that the clocks have gone back an hour and the nights are drawing in, it’s the perfect time to give yourself a treat and have a pamper evening.

I know most people will run a bath and relax in luxurious bubbles, but I hardly ever do that.  I am definitely a shower girl and will only take to the bathtub if I am absolutely freezing.  My relaxing time comes after all the bath time stuff and when I chill out in the bedroom.

In the shower I love to use Soap & Glory’s Sugar Crush body wash and scrub.  The smell is so gorgeous and I absolutely love it.  To moisturise, I use their Body Buttercream in Sugar Crush to amplify that smell.

Time to take the face off.  As I’m using Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm, I do not need to use a separate eye make up remover, as this balm removes everything.  Such a lovely cleansing balm.  I use this to do two cleanses that I remove with a warm, damp flannel.

As it’s a pamper evening, I am going to apply a face mask.  Tonight I am using L’Oreals Pure Clay Detox Mask.  A brilliant deep cleansing mask that has become a real favourite. Remove after it has completely dried with a damp, warm flannel.  I keep a separate flannel for removing this mask as it will stain.

I do a quick wipe over with a cotton pad and L’Oreal’s Micellar Water.  Then another sweep of a cotton pad with Pixi Glow Tonic which, if you have never used this product, then I highly recommend that you try it.  My skin has improved since I have been using this and it seems to keep it on an even keel.

Next I massage in some of the Body Shop’s Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil and then the Sleeping Cream.  Face done!

I pop on some Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail and Cuticle Oil on my nails and massage in, and then some Clarins Hand and Nail Cream.

The only thing left to do is make a coffee (I know, not a good idea before bed, but I’m addicted) and relax with a great book.

How do you unwind and relax?  I would love to know, so comment below…..

Take care and see you next week xx

My top five favourite nude lipsticks…

Lipstick has been around for centuries and the first known lip applications were in ancient Mesopotamia where precious gems were ground to a fine dust and applied to the lips.  The Egyptians, mainly Royalty and the higher classes used the carmine colour that was extracted from the bodies of cochineal insects to colour their lips.  The use of lipstick has come and gone over the centuries and became popular again in the 1920’s and has continued to be a makeup staple since then.

This is a pinky nude from Clinique that has a great texture and is fairly long-lasting.  The packaging is really good with a lid that stays put.  This is a pet peeve of mine, that some lipstick lids come off way too easily.  Not what you want to happen in your Chanel handbag!  If you have a Chanel handbag that is – I don’t, unfortunately.

This one passed the lid test and is more of a browny nude with a hint of shimmer.  Feels good on the lips and also lasts quite well.

All lipsticks should feel like this one does on the lips.  It just is the smoothest, silkiest lipstick and I absolutely love it.  It is probably not  the longest lasting, but you can just keep reapplying it can’t you!  Also, the lid stays on and the packaging is gorgeous.

A very brown based nude from Ciate.  Great packaging and a very satisfying lid click.  This lipstick is long-lasting and comfortable to wear.

Another dark pinky nude from Urban Decay that is lovely and comfortable to wear and also pretty long-lasting.  Lid stays put!

Random fact – the first swivel up lipstick in a tube appeared in 1923.

Whilst I was trying to pick my five favourites, I realised that I probably have far too many lipsticks and yet I still keep looking for new ones!  Help! I have a problem.

I hope you all have a fantastic week.  Lots of Love…Gxxx

October Glossybox review…

This month’s Glossybox has a secret shampoo to try.  Apparently, it is an old product that has been given an update.  It is supposed to be good for the scalp as well as keeping the hair shiny and healthy.  Estes Lalonde has collaborated with Glossybox this month and will be revealing this product on her blog, later in the month. I suspect that this product will be head and shoulders above other shampoos!

Trifle Cosmetics, a new brand to me, have a nude matte lipstick that is infused with Vitamin E which helps to keep lips supple and hydrated.  This is a very pale shade, but as they suggest, you could add colour over it.  I have to say, the packaging is gorgeous.

I love Rituals products, and this month Glossybox has included their The Ritual of Sakura magic touch body cream.  This leaves the skin so silky and smooth and it smells of cherry blossom.  What’s not to love?

Living in Cornwall where at present there are no Primark stores (first one opening next month), I have not had the opportunity to sample any of their make-up.  I was very pleasantly surprised to find the PS…PRO longer lipliner in shade 01 Ultimate Nude in the box, and even more surprised to find that I really liked it.  A great shade and it lasted all day!   Quite an achievement.

Secret Flush, soothing cream blusher and lip stain duo comes in a very compact case (ideal to pop in a pocket or handbag) in the shade 04 Nectar.  A very subtle, smooth blusher that can also be used on the lips.

One of my favourite brands is Bee Good, and the Honey and Camelina Facial Exfoliator is something I hadn’t tried before.  It smells fantastic (as do all of their products) and is a gentle and calming exfoliating cream.  It leaves the skin feeling very soft and smooth.

I like to do a monthly review of Glossybox because there are always new products and brands to to try out and to share with you.

Have a great week guys …xxx
