Favourite nail polishes for summer…

It’s summer and there are so many beautiful nail polishes available to brighten up your summer look.

Here are a few of my favourites for Summer 2016.

Rimmel Danny Boy Blue

2016-04-23 16.57.51

This is a beautiful cobalt blue, which is definitely in vogue this season, that gives  a great pop of colour if you are wearing white or black.  I like to pair it with a scarf, bag or jewellery.

L’Oreal Nymphea

20160410_130355-1-1

Nymphea is a bright, beautiful pink.  It has a high shine and looks terrific if you are wearing black, white or navy.

Bourjois So Laque Rouge Escarpin

2016-05-14 18.06.53

Actually, this is a dark red and I wear this a lot in the winter months, but heh, when is it not fashionable to wear a red nail or lipstick.

Nails Inc William Mews and Lancaster Grove

Odd names for a polish, but a gorgeous turquoise to ring the changes, and a fabulous very pale pink/white that I absolutely adore.

Rimmel Coralicious

20160423_144850-2-1

Who doesn’t like a coral polish on their suntanned toes in summer.  I know I do, and this polish has a high shine to go with it.

Just an afterthought, if any of you are looking for something that little bit different, then why not try out KFC’s new flavoured nail polishes.  These two colours are flavoured Hot and Spicy for the bright orange and original KFC flavour for the beige colour.  Sounds disgusting, but I haven’t tried them yet.  Maybe salted caramel or gin and tonic flavour would be more my scene.

Enjoy the sun if you are getting any.

THE LOW DOWN ON HYDRATING MASKS..

image

If you have a problem with dry or dehydrated skin, then to use an appropriate mask a couple of times a week, can really help to boost the skins moisture and hydration.

I have selected six masks to comment on, although there are loads to choose from at all price ranges.

NO.7 BEAUTIFUL SKIN HYDRATION MASK FOR DRY/VERY DRY SKIN

image

This mask is designed to give the skin a moisture boost and should be generously applied on clean skin and left for three minutes before being removed with a cotton pad or tissue and then rinsed.  If you want a more intense type of treatment then the mask can be left on for 10 minutes.  This mask is ok, and not offensive in any way, but some of the other masks I tried felt more moisturising.  It costs £12.50.

THE BODY SHOP OILS OF LIFE INTENSELY REVITALISING SLEEPING CREAM

image

As the name suggests, this cream is left on during the night.  After cleansing, apply a serum and then massage into the face.  It contains essential oils including black cumin, camellia and rose hip seed oils.  This is a beautiful cream, not sticky and really does leave the skin feeling silky smooth.  The Body Shop have really come up trumps with their Oils of Life range.  It costs £28.00.

NIP+FABE SKIN BEE STING FIX LIFTING MASK

image

This combines bee venom with “3D express lifting effect technology” .  It contains bee venom to increase blood circulation, propolis extract that is an anti-oxidant, antiseptic and skin healer and intensyl which has a 3D lifting and smoothing effect within 30 minutes.  Leave it on for 10 minutes or overnight.  I used it overnight but did not like the feel of this mask on my skin.  It felt quite sticky which I am not a fan of.  It costs £9.95.

CLARINS  HYDRAQUENCH CREAM MASK

image

This is applied to the face and neck and left for 5-10 minutes. Remove it with a toner soaked cotton pad.  It leaves the skin very soft and comfortable.  Costs £33.00.

REN WAKE WONDERFUL NIGHT-TIME FACIAL

image

This is an overnight cream mask and it leaves the skin feeling gorgeous.  It contains AHA’s, lactic and Glycolic acids to repair and reduce pigmentation.  It also contains glycogen and magnesium to heal and revitalise the skin.  Two to three pumps applied to the face, neck and décolletage.  One of my favourites.  Costs £32.

SUPERDRUG HYDRATING FACE MASK WITH VITAMIN E

image

An anti-ageing moisture mask that contains anti-oxidants, Vitamin E and grape seed oil to protect and hydrate the skin.  Massage onto clean skin and leave for 10-15 minutes.  Remove with cotton pad or tissue.  Use 2 – 3 times per week.  At £2.59 this mask is definitely value for money.

My favourite is the Body Shop Oils for Life Sleep Cream which left my skin really soft and smooth.

April Favourites …

image

This month has seen me revisit a few old favourites that had slipped out of use.

The first of these is Headrush from Bedhead by TiGi.  I love this.  I have a lot of hair that tends to frizz at the slightest hint of moisture in the atmosphere, and this superfine shine spray is great for finishing off my hair.  It also has a fantastic smell!

Next, is a new product for me and came in this month’s Birchbox, and it is the Parlor detangling leave-in conditioner by Jeff Chastain.  Spray this on to wet hair and blow dry as normal.  It removes all fly aways and leaves the hair smooth and soft.  This is something I will be purchasing in the full size.

Another old favourite is a perfume, Lancome’s La Vie est Belle.  I know this is not everyone’s cup of tea as it is quite a powerful scent, but I love it.  It is one of those perfumes that stays on your clothes and doesn’t disappear quickly like some fragrances.

Recently, my lovely son bought me some products from Kiehls, and this has become one of my new favourites.  Creme de Corps is a body cream that leaves the skin sooo soft. Love it, love, love it!

image

Finally, the last two products come from Clinique.  I was interested to try the Chubby in the Nude foundation stick, as it seemed like a great idea, especially for travelling.  I have always like the Chubby Sticks for eyes and lips and the foundation sticks are really great too.  My shade is 02 Abundant Alabaster and I will be taking this on my next trip.  To compliment this, I have also bought the new Buff Brush and this brush is brilliant for buffing in foundation, blusher or bronzer.  I have tried loads of different foundation brushes and I think this one seems to have the edge on all of them.

So that’s it for April.  Now looking forward to the summer and some sunshine.

Browse Brows…

imageThere are so many new and varied eyebrow products on the market and as brows are highly fashionable at the moment, I thought I would try a few out.  I have never really used anything on my brows as they are quite thick, only occasionally using a pencil to fill in any gaps.  In a recent Birchbox was “More Brows”, which having tried, I am now a total convert.  I have tried and tested all the products here and was pleasantly surprised by some and disappointed by others.

MAYBELLINE  BROW DRAMA

This was the first product I tried, and I have to say it was disappointing.  The applicator is an unusual design and I found it awkward to used – I used my own spooly to apply the product.  However, it flaked and looked pretty bad in a short time.  It costs £4.99.  www,maybelline.co.uk.

COLLECTION DEFINE AND PERFECT

This product is a liquid that dries to a powder.  I found it quite dry and does not apply easily.  Quite disappointing at £4.19. http://www.collectioncosmetics.co.uk.

STUDIO 10 BROWLIFT PERFECTING LINER

This is a double ended pencil, one end for brows the other end for highlighting.  This pencil is very hard and especially the highlighter.  I found it too harsh.  Costs £22.  Definitely overpriced in my opinion. http://www.studio10beauty.com.

L’OREAL BROW ARTIST GENIUS KIT,

This little kit uses a wax and powder.  This is a different type of eyebrow application and it may take me a little while to get used to.  I did like it, but found the application brush a little too small, so I used my own.  Cost is £9.99.  www.loreal-paris.co.uk.

SOAP AND GLORY ARCHERY 2 IN 1 BROW SCULPTING CRAYON AND SETTING GEL

This has an angled crayon on one end which I found to be too hard on my skin and on the other end is the setting gel, which I did like.  Costs £10.00. http://www.soapandglory.com.

MODEL CO MORE BROWS

This I love.  It applies easily and stays in place all day.  Costs £13.00. http://www.modelcocosmetics.com.

SEVENTEEN BROW’S THAT! BROW KIT

This was a surprise.  I thought that I wouldn’t like this, but in actual fact, I thought it gave a really good result.  Again, the brush is too small so I used my own. Firstly, you apply the wax in smooth strokes to shape and define brows.  Then apply the setting powder.  There is also a highlighter which is very smooth and blendable. There is also a pencil for filling in gaps. I will definitely be using this again.  Costs £5.99 http://www.boots.com.

Just a little footnote – the eyebrow brushes I use are Bobbi Brown’s small angled brush and Eyelure’s small angled brush and spooly.

There are loads more products out there, I would love to hear of your experiences with other eyebrow gels, powders and pencils.

Please leave your comments below, would love to hear what you think of my blog.

Happy Sunday !

My Evening Routine…

imageOne thing I have always done, even when I was a stay out late, drunk too much twentysomething, I have never gone to bed with my make-up on.  Admittedly, there may have been times when it was just a cursory swipe of eye make-up remover and and wipe with a damp flannel, but generally I have always been a bit of a clean skin freak.

As I have started to write about make-up and skincare, I am trying loads of new products and so my routine changes quite frequently.  So here is my current evening routine.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

image

I use this Micellar water to remove my eye make-up and it does so incredibly well.  I am a bit partial to a few coats of mascara and this removes all of it easily. http://www.garnier.co.uk

Una Brennan Super Facialist

image

This is beautiful cleansing oil that smells divinely of sweet orange.  A very light oil that becomes milky when you add water to it.  Is simply massage into my skin and remove with a warm, damp flannel.  I always repeat this process as the first cleanse removes the make-up and the second cleanses the skin. http://www.superfacialist.co.uk.

Pixie Glow Tonic

image

Pop some Glow Tonic on a cotton pad and wipe over the skin.  This contains Glycolic Acid and since I have been using this, my skin has definitely improved.  This is something I will continue to use in the future. http://www.pixibeauty.com.

Skin Doctors Youth Cell

image

I like to use a serum before my moisturiser, and at the moment I am using this product that I bought from T K Max.  They often have random products on their shelves, and it looked interesting.  I have found this to be very moisturising and not sticky (which I hate). http://www.skindoctors.co.uk.

L’Oreal Age Perfect Pro-calcium night cream

image

I like a bargain, and this was on sale in Boots for a fiver!  So I’ve given it a go.  I’m pleased with it so far.  It is easily absorbed into the skin and as my skin is mature and dehydrated, it works well for me.  I think if you had a greasy skin, then this cream would not be suitable for you. http://www.loreal-paris.co.uk.

March Glossybox

Having subscribed for several months to Birchbox, and been very happy with everything I have received, I thought I would try a different brand. So this month I am giving Glossybox a go. The March Glossybox duly arrived and I was very excited to see the pretty pink box and the lovely pink tissue wrapped goodies inside.

LUXIE ROSE GOLD LARGE ANGLED FACE BRUSH

image

This is a beautifully soft angled brush with in rose gold and pink handle.  I used it to apply some contouring and it blended well.  I would say this is not really a large brush, but it is the perfect size for contouring. Thumbs up from me. Full size price is £10.42. http://www.luxiebeauty.com.

OLAY REGENERIST SKIN TONE PERFECTING CREAM

image

This was a 7ml sample size and it purports to fade discolouration and evens out skin tone, and leave you with a glowing complexion.  The cream did leave my skin feeling softer, but whether it can rid me of any discolouration or not I will have to wait and see.  To be honest, I’m not sure that any cream can do that.  One thing I didn’t like about this was the smell. The price for the full size is £29.99. http://www.olay.co.uk.

HEY HONEY GOOD MORNING HONEY SILK FACIAL SERUM

image

This is a lovely serum containing, as the name suggests, honey, and propolis.  It sinks into the skin, leaving it feeling smooth and not sticky.  £28.81 for the full size. http://www.heyhoney.com.

CATHARSIS VITAMIN MINERAL SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER

Shampoo and conditioner, both 40ml, containing Dead Sea minerals, vitamins and essential oils that claim to leave the hair gleaming and hydrated.  They did leave my hair feeling soft and shiny, and they are not highly scented, which I prefer in hair products.  The full size are £16.89 each. http://www.minus417.com.

SO SUSAN LIGHT DIFFUSER

image

A contour and highlight palette which blended well and the shades were ok on my skin.  I liked the packaging and will definitely use it. At £14 for a full size I probably won’t re-purchase it, as I have other products I prefer.  www.sosusan.com.

March Favourites…..

This month I could have doubled the amount of favourites as I seem to have loads of products that I am loving at the moment.  I’ve picked out mainly make-up, but my very favourite thing is my new phone case from Wrappz.

LANCÔME HYPNOSE MASCARA

image

For some unknown reason I have never used any make-up from Lancôme.  Having seen several beauty bloggers recommend this mascara, I thought I would give it a try.  I have to say it has been a pleasant surprise.  I really like the brush (I am not a fan of the weird and wonderful brushes that are out there) and it applies very smoothly and is not clumpy.  I think I am a convert.  It is high end and costs £23.50, but is a lovely mascara.

MORE BROWS BY MODELCO

image

I have always used a light brown powder eyeshadow to fill in my brows, but this month’s Birchbox contained More Brow. It is brilliant.  I love it.  I will definitely be ordering this again.  It is a brow thickening gel that is quick drying and is so natural looking.  I would definitely recommend this for anyone who loves their brows.  Costs about £13.00.

CIATE LONDON WITH OLIVIA PALERMO EYELINER PENCIL

image

This is a highly pigmented eyeliner in the colour Fig, which is a beautiful aubergine colour.  It is a kohl type eyeliner that has a built-in angled brush to smudge the liner for a smokey look. Quite expensive for an eyeliner at £15, but it applies really well and is now a definite favourite.  I need to try the black!

LIPFINITY  BY MAX FACTOR

image

This is a long lasting lipstick by Max Factor.  The shade is Evermore Lush.  I love this as it feels very moisturising on the lips and is not drying at all.  The colour is perfect for me, although I’m not sure it lasts for eight hours as it claims.  It does lasts for a couple of hours definitely.  It costs about £8.99.

PURE NATURAL BEAUTY INSTANT RADIANCE HOT CLOTH CLEANSER

imageI am now on my second bottle of this cleanser.  If you like to use a cream cleanser then I would highly recommend this one.  It uses 95% natural ingredients and essential oils.

Remove cleanser with a hot flannel.  Gorgeous.  Costs £10.00 from Marks and Spencer.

WRAPPZ

image

Wrappz do custom made phone cases.  I ordered mine to tie in with my social media pages and my blog page.  Very easy to do, just download your image and they do the rest.  Mine arrived within two days.  Fantastic service, and I’m very pleased with the result.  Costs £17.45 including postage and packing.

I hope this has been informative.  Let me know if you have used any of my favourites and what you thought of them.
