Hair Care Products ….

These are the hair care products I have been using consistently recently.

I having been using the Pro-voke Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo since I stopped dying my hair, about 16 months ago.  I use it twice a week to neutralise any brassy tones and give the grey a bit of a lift.

I am a big fan of Kiehl’s products, and have been using the Amino Acid Conditioner, which does not contain any silicone or paragons and leaves the hair in a great condition.

Some days, I like to use a hair mask instead of a conditioner, and at the moment, I am using the Banana Hair Mask from The Body Shop – smells great (if you like bananas!)

Even though I use the Kiehl’s conditioner, I do like to put some of their Smoothing Oil-Infused Leave-In Concentrate on my hair before drying.  This is a really beautiful product, especially as my hair does tend to frizz.

If I am going to use any heated appliance to curl or straighten my hair, then I will spray it with Umberto Giannini’s Day After Day After Day 3 Day Frizz Free Hair Taming Spray.  This is great at protecting the hair from heat and moisture.

If I am going somewhere special, I will use Headrush from TIGI.  This is a shine spray which gives the hair a little gloss and the smell is utterly devine.

What are your current favourite hair products?  I would love it if you would leave a comment below.

Have a great week everyone, and if you are in love, have a happy Valentines day, and if not, enjoy an early night with a good book!!

Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara …

Everyone, well not everyone, but a lot of people have been talking about the new mascara from Benefit that launched this week.  So, I had to go and check it out, for review purposes only, of course!

Its claims are :

  • its pitch black
  • Contains Pro Vitamin B5 that fuels thickness and strength
  • it’s smudgeproof and flake free
  • it is waterproof.

The mascara is very black and volumising and the wand is very flexible and not what I am used to, but it seems to spread the mascara to the very tips of the lash.

This is one coat on my top lash, one eye only.

This is two coats, upper lash, one coat on lower lash. One eye only.

Two coats upper, one lower.   One coat upper and lower.

Two coats upper on both eyes.  One coat on lowers.

Excuse the scary pics above.  I decided to see how the mascara performs during the day, as Benefit do claim that it is a 36 hour mascara!  Well its been a while since I needed my mascara to stay on that long, so I just tested it out for the day.

I wore the mascara from 8.oo am until 8.30 pm when I decided to test out its waterproof qualities.  I had a shower and washed my hair, taking care not to touch or rub my eyes.  I think this is a pretty extreme test to see how waterproof it was.

Above is a picture of the lashes after 10 hours of wear – a pretty good result I think.  The mascara stayed black and glossy and no flaking.

After the shower!  To be fair, it probably could stand a shower of rain, but I wouldn’t say you could go swimming in it.

Another plus, the mascara came of very easily with eye makeup remover, with no rubbing or pulling of the skin.

Downside – it costs £21.50.  Quite expensive for a high street brand, but if you have the budget for it, I would say it is a really good mascara, especially if you need it to stay put all day (and you won’t be taking a shower!).

Hope you all have a great week…..

January Favourites – Skincare

It is always difficult to pick the monthly favourites, but these products I have been using regularly throughout January.

This is a product I use everyday under my makeup.  If you use any type of acid in your skincare, you should definitely be using a factor 50 sunscreen.  I do use a glycolic acid daily so wearing a sunscreen is a very important step in my skincare routine.  I particularly like this one from Clarins as it does not leave the skin looking white and although it is quite pricey, it lasts for ages.

This is the most beautiful retinoid oil that aims to rejuvenate and hydrate the skin.  It helps to combat fine lines and wrinkles and skin renewal.  I love this oil and use it every other night.  It is also expensive, but you only need a small amount and so it lasts for ages.  I have been using mine since last May, and there is still two thirds of the bottle left. I think it is well worth it.

I got this in December and since then I have been spritzing it on my face every morning before any other skincare.  It is very refreshing and I feel like it preps the skin before adding any serum/oil or creams.

OMG this is such a beautiful oil.  It just sinks into the skin, smells delicious and really helps moisturise and nourish the skin.  I have a small sample bottle of this, which has lasted for ages, but I will definitely be purchasing the full size soon.

There has been a lot of hype surrounding this mask from Sand and Sky, and I caved in and got some to see if it is as marvellous as they claim.  I have been using it for a couple of weeks and I have to say, I think it is!  I can definitely see improvement in my skin.  I think this has to be the loveliest mask to apply.  It is very smooth and creamy and it removes so easily, with no rubbing the skin to get it all off.  I really great product, but again, very expensive for a face mask.  However, I think I will be buying more when this one is finished.

I can’t believe we are at the end of January.  One thing is good, is that the evenings are starting to get lighter here in the UK.

I hope you all have a great week.

Beauty Pie – What did I buy?…

A couple of weeks ago, a friend kindly sent me some products from Beauty Pie.  This is a brand I had heard about last year when they launched in the UK.  You can purchase Beauty Pie products without becoming a member, but for £10 per month you will pay only a fraction of the products worth.

Having been very impressed with my gifts, two lipsticks and a some micro-peeling lotion, I thought I would at least, give them a go.  This is what I ordered.

This is a gentle retinol moisture balm that contains hyaluronic acid and argan oil.  This is a twice a week treatment to help the skin look dewy and youthful.  I am very interested to see how this performs.

I used this on the day it arrived, and everyday since.  It is a really gorgeous foundation, very light consistency, but still manages to give a good coverage.  It is always tricky buying foundation and getting the shade correct.  Beauty Pie have a foundation matcher on their site, where you can put in the shade of a foundation that you know is right for you and they can tell you which shade you need.   My shade is 300 Beige.  This feels like a really expensive product, similar to Chanel Vitalumiere.

I was unsure which shade to get, so I bought 300 and 400.  Actually, both are a bit dark for me, but I think I can use these in the Summer when I have more of a tan.  They have a good consistency and coverage, but I think I will have to order a lighter shade.

This is another product that I am delighted with.  I have been using Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil for quite a while and this one from Beauty Pie is very similar with a very fine pencil and the colour is also really good.  My shade is Baked Brown.

I picked shade Khaki Queen and it can be used as a liner or a shadow.  Great shade and application is very easy.  Blends well with fingers and is very long wearing.  I wore it all day and it stayed put.  I plan to get a few more shades.

Another  great product for highlighting cheekbones or it can be mixed with foundation for a bit of a glow.  The shade I have is Golden Whirl and it gives a lovely sheen, and not to full on metallic flash like some highlighters/luminizers can have.

Overall, I have been very impressed with the quality of these products, and I will definitely be ordering some more.  I have listed the prices below for your information and also the prices for non-members.

I would love to know what new beauty products you have tried recently and loved.

Micro Mineral Serum Foundation              £32      £5.30

Overnight Skin Perfector                              £70      £5.75

Triple Beauty Liquid Luminizer                  £20     £2.88

Superfine Precision Pencil                            £17     £2.68

Fantastikohl Smudgy Eye Colour Crayon   £16     £1.95

Super Luminous Concealer                           £22     £3.02

January Glossybox ….

This month’s box is a little bit different to the usual box.  The first thing I noticed was the large box of a food supplement from Beauty Beneath, which is a product made for Boots.

This is a supplement designed to boost the skins collagen production and also provides a blend of nutrients and antioxidants that are essential to maintain and healthy and youthful looking skin.  There are two capsules to be taken daily.  I’ll report back on this and let you know what I think.

The Nail and Cuticle Energiser is an interesting product.  It says that it is an oil, but I it doesn’t feel like an oil to me, and in fact, I had to treat each nail individually as it seems to evaporate quite quickly.  Having said that, I will continue to use it, and see how it performs over the next few weeks.

From Apicia, comes a cream blusher that contains organic bee pollen.  I have only tried this on the back of my hand so far, and it does blend out nicely, giving a subtle, natural colour.  fullsizeoutput_603

Evelyn Iona Cosmetics’ Green Tea Primer is Vegan, cruelty free and paraben free.  This is a beautiful primer and it contains avocado oil and green tea extract.  A gorgeous base on which to apply your foundation.  I think I will have to check out the website and see what else they have to offer.

Finally, from Dr Botanicals, is their Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil.  I love a good facial oil, and this is beautiful.  A very light oil that absorbs quickly into the skin, and it smells so good.  Perfect!

I am very pleased with this month’s box.  A lot of different products, new brands to me and the quality seems very high.

I have listed the websites of all the brands below.

Enjoy your week everyone.

A Little Bit Of Clarins ….

Who doesn’t like a bit of Clarins skincare?  I do!

My all time favourite hand cream is Hand and Nail Treatment Cream.  It is simply the best hand cream that I have found.  It smells divine, leaves the hands silky smooth and not greasy, and really does help keep nails and skin moisturised.

The Multi-Active Jour day cream is something I have only tried recently and so far, I am loving it!  It sinks in to the skin immediately, leaving it hydrated and soft.

If you like a physical exfoliant rather than an acid type exfoliation, then the Gentle Refiner is a great choice.  It contains natural micrograms that dissolve whilst being massaged into the skin.  No nasty plastic microbeads here!

The Tonic Body Treatment Oil is a fantastic oil that is super moisturising and non greasy. It claims to help remove stretch marks, but I’m not completely convinced anything can if you already have them.  Fortunately I don’t, but this is a great oil to keep your skin smooth and nourished.

The Exfoliating Body Scrub for Smooth Skin is a great way to remove rough skin.  It contains natural bamboo powder to exfoliate any flaky skin.

Finally, I was given a little sample bottle of the Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil to try.  I am a big fan of facial oils and this one is a great addition to an already large collection!  It is 100% plant based and contains Rosewood, Patchouli and Blue Orchid.  Gorgeous.

If you have never tried anything from Clarins, I can honestly say that their products are extremely good and possibly start with the hand cream and see how you like it.

What are your favourite skincare products?  I would love to know, so leave a comment below.

This year’s favourites …..

IMG_3272There were so many products I reached for again and again in 2017.  To be honest, I could have tripled the number of products that were favourites.  All, except one, are products that are new to me this year.  The exception being the Tartlette palette.

Something I have used ever since I first tried it, is the Double Serum from Clarins.  I absolutely love this and it has made such a difference to the hydration of my skin.

IMG_3277I know that this is a product that I will continue to purchase, and I have already bought my second one, just in case I run out!

The Kiehls Smoothing Oil-Infused Leave-In Concentrate is also something I have continuously used all throughout 2017.  My hair tends to be quite fly away and this just keeps it smooth, but not greasy.  Simply lovely.

I think I picked up the Clinique All About Eyes as part of a gift with purchase, earlier in the year.  I have used this every day, morning and evening since I got it.  It is very light, but highly moisturising.  Another product that I will definitely be buying again.

When I first started by blog, I think I entered a giveaway on Twitter and won the Tartlette in Bloom eye shadow palette.  This is a brilliant palette with a great mix of matt, shimmer and colour.  I usually take this with me if I am going on a trip, because I can get any look I want with these colours.

Back in June, I did a blogpost on Rapid Lash.  Since, I started using Rapid Lash, my lashes are much longer and thicker.  I am now on my second pack and although it may seem expensive (around £40) it works out as less than £2 per week.  They look better than eyelash extensions too!

The power of the internet is strong, and I completely hold my hands up and admit I was completely swayed by watching some YouTubers use this product.  It is the BB Creme Nude by Erborian, a South Korean brand that I had not heard of before.   It is a great product and I use it alone, and sometimes as a primer under another foundation.  It has great coverage whilst still giving a very natural transparent look to the skin.

The next two products are from L’Oreal.  The Lumi Magique pure light primer is absolutely fabulous under foundation or on the cheek bones as a highlighter.  If you have great, young skin, you could use it on its own, just to give your skin a bit of a glow.

The L’Oreal Glam Nude CC Cream is a violet coloured cream that brightens up dull looking skin.  I use this under a light coverage foundation usually.

Day to day, I generally use a CC Cream or a light coverage foundation.  If I am going out in the evening, I might want a bit more coverage, so my favourite foundation this year has been Dior’s Star Studio Make-Up Spectacular Brightening Weightless Perfection with SPS30.  A bit of a mouthful, but a lovely foundation.

Another product that I have been reaching for over and over again this year, is the Gel Shine 3D Top Coat from Sally Hansen.  This is a high shine, gel like top coat and it is great on top of any polish.  IMG_3285

Last, but definitely not least, a lipstick from Tanya Burr.  I have to admit, that before I picked up anything from the TB range, I did not have particularly high expectations of the quality of the products.  This lipstick was the first thing I purchased and it has become my favourite lipstick of 2017 without question, and I have a LOT of lipsticks, believe me!  The shade is Pink Cocoa and it goes with everything, it is super creamy and lasts for ages.  I need to get a new one!

Well, another year comes to an end and a new one just about to start.  Don’t look back, for those days are gone.  Look forward with exitement at what might me.  Make memories to cherish, love in abudance and never be cruel or unkind.

A big thank you to all of my subscribers and to anyone else who may stray on to my blog.

Have a Happy New Year and may 2018 bring everything you wish for.

lots of love, Gail xxx
